Fishing Report – August 17th, 2017

The last nine weekends in a row have been blown out by very high wind conditions which is a record for us. That means the fish have been left alone and the activity will be awesome once the weather gods start playing nice. Winter Season is now in the last few weeks which means the water will start warming up and the fish will start to get more aggressive for food. Winter is still a great time to be on the water fishing as there are less boats out fishing and less competition for the catches. Fish are still being caught with pinky snapper, flathead, salmon and garfish still taking baits. The secret of Spring is the days can be spectacularly calm and when the sun is out the conditions are magic. Wear enough clothes to stay warm and get out on the water.

Click this link to see our new GOT THE LOT Package (You Save $100!) which includes our best Extreme boat, an extra hour of hire time, colour fish-finder, 4 premium hire rods rigged and ready, 1kg pilchards bait, 400gm of squid bait … and you also get to keep the 41 piece tackle pack (25 chemically sharpened hooks, sinkers and swivels) and Jarvis Walker Floating knife. All our hires also include all the fuel, safety equipment hire, inflatable life jacket hire and bucket and net hire.

Best baits are squid cut into strips, pilchards and pippies. With the shorter daylight days, we currently open at 7.30am with last boats in by 4.00pm … mornings are always best as the water is calmer and the fish are on the bite. Fish are being caught throughout the day. During Winter we are open weekends only.

Our Famous Five Hotspots are still keeping everybody busy with Pinnacles and Old Faithful continuing to get the best results. When the weather is calm a slow drift without using the anchor is a great tactic to fish a large area … you might lose a few hooks and sinkers on snags though. At Bluey’s we have super fresh bait and all the tackle you need to catch your dream fish and we will give you tips and advice on where they are biting and what bait is working best.

The area around Mordialloc has the reputation as the premium Snapper location on Port Phillip Bay and Bluey’s is the only boat hire operation that provides access to the waters around the Famous Five reef systems. Just 5-15 minutes by boat and you are right in the middle of the action! We see 5kg+ snapper on our hire boats every year with the occassional 10kg monster being landed. The photos and smiles are always awesome.
